Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa was one of Rome's greatest generals. Famous for his defeats of Mark Antony and Cleopatra, Agrippa was also a friend of Octavian (the future emperor Augustus). Agrippa and Octavian fought together in the Battle of Philippi as well as the war against Lucius Antonius and Fulvia. After winning so many battles, Octavian appointed Agrippa governor of Transaphine Gaul where he fought many more battles including against the Germanic tribes, making him the next general after Julius Caesar to do so.

We named our Gladius sword after Agrippa because of his storied career as a general. This sword is our representation of the Gladius Roman sword that was so famous during these battles. Gladius is a Latin word meaning "sword", and no where was this more prominent than with the Roman foot soldiers. The Gladius, a double-edged short sword, was the primary weapon for legions of soldiers that helped build the Roman Empire. A Roman Legionary was generally equipped with a shield, a spear, a Gladius, and sometimes a small pugio dagger. The soldiers would throw their spears to disrupt the enemy lines before moving into close combat. Here they would lead with their shield before thrusting with the Gladius.

Our blade design mirrors the style often seen from history, but we have added a little more style with Damascus steel bolsters inlaid with brass. The rosewood handle also has brass inlays to give it a little more flair. A long leather sheath with a belt loop and snap will allow you to carry and store this impressive blade in style. This really is a work of art.

My Agrippa!

When I ordered the Agrippa Short Roman Sword, I was a little leery about getting a sword that big, but when it came in I was very pleased with it. The workmanship was exceptional. The sword felt good in my hand. Excellent craftsmanship. The only con was it shipped in a cardboard box and not the stylish wooden storage box. However, I'm very pleased with it. BRAVO!!!

Love this knife! Compact design, nice grip, feels comfortable in your hand--very sharp blade! As a side for the ladies--it fits in the smallest of bags. You won't be disappointed if you buy it!
