Gladius is a Latin word meaning "sword", and no where was this more prominent than with the Roman foot soldiers. The Gladius, a double-edged short sword, was the primary weapon for legions of soldiers that helped build the Roman Empire. A Roman Legionary was generally equipped with a shield, a spear, a Gladius, and sometimes a small pugio dagger. The soldiers would throw the spear to disrupt the enemy lines before moving into close combat. Here they would lead with their shield before thrusting with the Gladius.

Generally, a Gladius would be 18-27 inches long. Our shorter 15" Gladius Damascus Steel Short Sword was created to honor the Roman weapon. Built with a similar blade shape to the longer Gladius, our Gladius is features a brass and wood bolster and carved rosewood handle. A long leather sheath with a belt loop and snap will allow you to carry and store this impressive blade.
