Xanthippus of Carthage was a Spartan mercenary hired by the Carthaginians to build an army against the invading Romans. Xanthippus reorganized the Carthaginian army, utilizing new battle formations, teaching the cavalry how to fight, and making use of elephants and Greek infantrymen. Xanthippus and the Carthaginians met the Romans in what has become known as The Battle of Tunis. The Roman lines held the advancing elephants but the Carthaginian cavalry annihilated the Roman cavalry and flanked the Roman army, attacking from the rear. The Roman army was utterly destroyed and the Roman African expedition was stopped.
We find the story of Xanthippus to be fascinating and inspiring. This is why we decided to name this Damascus steel short sword after Xanthippus. Spartans were known to carry a short steel sword into battle. This beefy Damascus steel short sword is a pleasure to hold and carry. With the chiseled G10 handles, tracker style blade, and full-grain leather sheath, it is a work of art. This blade is perfect for wilderness survival and will be the talk of your hunting group.
