Kimura Shigenari was a Japanese samurai in the 17th century. At the age of 21, he commanded an army for his first campaign at the Winter Siege of Osaka. Because of his bravery, Hideyori acclaimed him as the “peerless hero of the nation”, and presented him with a sword made by the famous swordsmith Masamune. Kimura returned the sword because of his devotion to the Toyotomi clan.

One year later, Kimura led the army against Tadataka’s troop at the Summer Siege of Osaka. Kimura himself fought on the front lines and was caught during the battle. He was then beheaded and it is rumored that his hair was neatly trimmed and that he had road with incense in his helmet to show that he was prepared to die.

This tanto style Damascus steel fighting knife is named as Kimura as a form of respect. While this is not a traditional style of the Japanese tanto, we like to think that the combination of tanto tip, saw edge and large finger-grooved handle, would make a good choice for close quarter combat and fitting of the samurai. Made of 1095 and 15n20 steels, the high carbon content of 1095 gives this knife an extremely sharp and durable edge and makes it the ideal choice for rough use.

Better than expected

Pondered for a time before actual purchase. Been burnt in the past ordering things online when quality or product didn’t come out as advertised in one form or another. Also worry with my larger hands that handles just won’t feel right, or will be misaligned with my grip. Personally, I’d prefer to pick up and feel most tools before I commit. However, most places in my area are mainstream commercialized shops selling the same things. Wanted something a bit different. Although just touching on the length/size limits of the handle, it’s heft and balance feels very comfortable in my grip. Also, although the patterns and coloring of any object may differ from one to the other, what I received is nothing short of a work of art! I was quite pleased with the patterning of the two steels, and the coloring of the handle accents the two metals perfectly. Not that it would have been a deal-breaker for me, but I read a few reviews on the sheath being cheaper as well, but what I received was essentially what was in the image. I wasn’t originally planning on buying any others, but now I’m considering their Cuisinier 8” Chef Knife as well. Will definitely be checking them out again in the future should I ever be considering another purchase.

Great knife

This was my first knife from Forseti steel and my first Damascus blade as well. The knife is great and comes razor sharp right out of the box. My only complaint is that the sheath isn’t the one advertised. The one I got was a horizontally belt mounted one that feels kinda cheap compared to the knife. That is my only complaint and I intend to buy other knives in the future.

Good knife, lame shieth.

The knife is great bit the shieth is way lower quality than advertised. I emailed them and I got a "sorry we can't help." Not a deal-breaker but plan to order one separately or make it yourself.

Why Forseti Steel?

Each Knife is Unique

All of our knives are made by hand and crafted one at a time. That is why no two knives are the same. The knife you receive will be similar to what you see on our site, but will be unique based on the natural materials used and individual craftsman that built the knife.

Testimonials

Beautiful, true Damascus steel knives. They set the table with elegance and class.

Love this knife! Compact design, nice grip, feels comfortable in your hand--very sharp blade! As a side for the ladies--it fits in the smallest of bags. You won't be disappointed if you buy it!
