Hugh Glass 12" Hunting Knife
FS-1841
Regular price $144.99Hugh Glass was born in Pennsylvania in the early 1800’s. One of the earliest known memories is when Hugh joined General Ashley’s 1823 expedition to ascend the river Missouri. This expedition was attacked by the Arikara warriors and many people were killed. The Ashley Party eventually regrouped with Andrew Henry and set out overland to the Yellowstone River. While scouting, Glass disturbed a grizzly bear and her two cubs. The grizzly charged Glass, picked him up and wounded him greatly. Glass and his party were able to kill the grizzly but Glass was left for dead. Amazingly, Glass did not die and crawled 200 miles to Fort Kiowa.
Our hunting knife design is inspired by the mountain men and frontiersmen who tried to tame this land. The 7.5” blade has a classic look with a slight drop point. The large stainless steel bolster will protect your fingers from sliding onto the blade and a large tali wood handle will give you superior control of the knife, even while wearing gloves. The overall knife measures just over 12” and weighs 11 ounces without the sheath. The sheath has been custom designed to be worn holster style under your arm. This protects the knife from the elements but also gives you quick access to the knife when you need it.
Handmade of San Mai Steel, this hunting knife is meant to be used and will take a beating. San Mai Steel comes from Japanese bladesmiths who would weld multiple steels together to create a strong, yet supple blade. The center of the blade is made of D2 steel and is sandwiched between two layers of stainless steel. D2 steel is your cutting surface and the two layers of stainless steel act as a protective barrier to the semi-stainless D2 layer of steel. As D2 has a higher carbon content, it is prone to rust if not dried and oiled, the stainless steel helps protect this layer of steel from the elements. Perfect for a hunting knife that needs to be very sharp but won’t rust while sitting in its sheath or being used in the mountains.

Strong and sharp knife. Used many times, still sharp and no damage. Had to remove the shoulder strap on the sheath. Did not hang properly.
Needs a better holder
