Regular price $169.99Percy Harrison Fawcett was a British officer, explorer, and archaeologist. After leaving the army, he embarked on several trips to the Amazon river between 1906 and 1925. He fostered many good relationships with the local natives and was known to be courteous and polite, and bring gifts to smooth the relationship. Every trip created more awe and fame when he returned to England. Fawcett left on his final trip in 1925, along with his son and son’s friend. Fawcett was a romantic and believed in the legend of a lost city in the Mato Grosso region of Brazil. Fawcett decided to travel light and without any local support. He believed this would make them less noticeable to the native tribesmen who were often hostile to explorers. Fawcett sent a letter to his wife in May of 1925, telling her that the trio was about to enter the unchartered territories of the Amazon. Unfortunately, no one heard from the three men again. There are many theories about what happened to the trio but no one knows for sure. Numerous excursions were embarked on to find Fawcett’s remains and many of the people in these excursions lost their lives. To this day, no one knows for sure what happened to Fawcett and the ancient city he was searching for has yet to be discovered.
A high-quality machete is an indispensable tool whether you are exploring in the Amazon or bushwhacking through the Rockies. The butt of the machete comes pre-drilled so you can add a lanyard and the full tang quillion protects your fingers from sliding onto the blade. A full-grain leather sheath houses this incredible blade and a leather belt loop on the back allows you to carry the machete at your side.
I wish that I could rate this machete with six stars.
I bought mine at a retail store out west, and for five years it was the sharpest, most durable tool I have ever owned. It is a hefty thing, but you appreciate the weight when it comes to chopping, and the speed with which you can swing it is only helped by the forward heavy edge. This machete will easily make it through an inch thick branch on a single swing. The spine is stout, and on many occasions I've used it as a draw knife.
I oiled it every other week when I could, and it retained its absolutely beautiful appearance. I honed the blade with a round whetstone when needed, but even then it was because errant stroke sent the edge into a stone or the dirt. The handle held tight and was the perfect size to fit your hand, and there wasn't a harsh edge anywhere on it. The sheath, aside from being beautiful as well, was very functional and held up great. The belt loop could be used with confidence, and the stitching held true.
In a complete fluke, a strange hit to a piece of particularly stubborn wood cracked the tang in half, but I reached out to customer service and sent some photos. They were a breeze to work with, and a replacement machete is on its way to me right now. Y'all need to understand that I rarely leave reviews, and never anything like this. I'm a handyman and work outside quite a bit. This is the best machete I've ever used, hands down.
The only thing I'd say against it is that it is not a brush cutter. The weight of the blade and the length make it perfect to deliver devastating, hard, and fast blows to most things, but when it comes to grasses or other lightweight targets that give, it's just not long enough or light enough to use comfortably.
If you're looking for a robust machete that will handle whatever you can throw at it, backed by a great warranty and service, I cannot recommend this enough.
Looks and feels great, works okay. It's a beautiful piece of art in appearance but when I took it out to see what it could do, I was a little disappointed because it did not cut as well as some of my other machetes. I'm going to work on the edge and try again.
It’s flawlessly made and sharp everything I wanted it to be very nice machete and has good weight to it
The Damascus machete is absolutely amazing. Well made and beautiful craftsmanship. It even fits the sheath perfectly (amazing how many times that’s not true). Great work!! Highly recommend.
I recently gave my machete to a good friend of mine. Hispanic, he could understand it's beauty, it's functionality, the roots that have grown this piece of art!! A real man it left him speechless, it brought tears. What a great moment, I am ordering 6 more!!!
